Transport, commerce, digital connectivity, marketing and housing were among the main items Alderney’s Chamber of Commerce discussed yesterday (Wednesday 25 October) with Mike Freer MP, the UK Government’s Under Secretary of State for the Ministry of Justice.
Mike Freer flew into Alderney yesterday for meetings with the President, States Members and business leaders and in a tight schedule he and his aides were also given a ‘whistle- stop’ tour of the island’s key institutions.
At a luncheon hosted by Chamber, Council was represented by President Andrew Eggleston, Ilona Soane-Sands and Ian Corder. The Minister was interested to understand the commercial make-up of the island and where it saw itself as time progressed.
Chamber confirmed it enjoyed a unified approach with the States of Alderney on most topics and stressed the critical importance of the rejuvenation of the airport without which the whole island would be severely impacted.
Andrew Eggleston commented: “This was a positive meeting with Mike Freer which now cements a relationship with the Minister that we will ensure, will not have been a one-off, but one that we will further on behalf of the island.” ENDS
