MEETING WITH GUERNSEY’S CHIEF MINISTER ( Monday 1st September ’25)

Council members of the Alderney Chamber were invited to a meeting with Guernsey’s Chief Minister Lindsay de Sausmarez and Deputy Steve Falla of Policy & Resources on their recent visit to the island.

Chief Minister Lindsay de Sausmarez, Chamber President Andrew Eggleston & Deputy Steve Falla

It was refreshingly open and positive between us highlighting some points that affect both our islands proportionally.

Our main point was the critical need for a law to be in place that would allow banks to lend against leasehold properties – which they are unable to do at present. This would open up the avenue for people to buy at the lower end of the market which would give younger people the opportunity of getting on the property ladder.

We also discussed the Tax Cap which comes up for discussion/renewal at the end of this year, looking ahead for our energy needs, second and derelict homes, and the need for there to be a form of minimum requirements for long lets.

We all agreed it was a most successful meeting and furthers our relationship with Guernsey.
