![]() A few updates for your interest from the Council:- A meeting with Economic Development this week proved both positive and informative. These occur on a regular basis. Topics included:- – Why are Sea Passenger Contracts given on just a one year basis. This does not give time or confidence to establish and expand any business. This is being looked into. – There was positive feedback about the installation of both Avgas and A1 Jet Fuel for private aviators and commercial. – We asked that there be regular communication as to the rebuilding of the runway next year to allay worries that are already being felt in our businesses – especially within the hospitality sector. – We maintained our concern at the cost and necessity of a review of the Land Use Plan despite receiving some assurances from within the States that it was necessary. – With our fishing industry in decline, a boost could be given by gaining licences for Tuna Fishing. It is possible this could bring back the charter boats that used to come regularly from the south coast and helped boost our economy. Such licences could well be ‘catch and release’ to the charter boats. – We touched briefly on the concept a Data Centre on island. The States are simply carrying out a feasibility study to explore opportunities and to gather information.. There is no ‘one size fits all’ and we are pleased the States are looking at differing possibilities in a lateral way for the future. To stand still results in going backwards in real time. We cannot afford to do this. Let us see what, if any, progress is made. ALL Members continually receive media and States releases via Chamber and other information directly from ourselves through our website and social media pages. Andrew Eggleston
