ALDERNEY   CHAMBER   OF   COMMERCE

Good morning Philip.

Yet more disruption today on our Alderney sectors.   The bland reason put forward to the media being operational reasons.

We would request answers to the following two points:-

  1.   If one Twin Otter has gone tech, why is the other one not covering?   Are both Twin Otters in the Channel Islands in accordance with the wet lease agreement?
  2.   If the reason is shortage of pilots, please confirm how many Twin Otter pilots are currently in the Channel Islands.

We look forward to response during the day.

Kind regards,

Andrew Eggleston
President

Dear Andrew

Thank you for your email and, as ever, I am pleased to be given the opportunity to respond to your concerns and observations relating to Alderney operations.

First, our services to and from Alderney have been performing with high levels of reliability and excellent punctuality in recent weeks.

In April, we achieved an On-Time Performance rate of 89% (weather and ATC adjusted) and our completion rate was over 95% (weather and ATC adjusted).

In May, up to and including 5th May, we have achieved an On-Time Performance rate of 100% (weather and ATC adjusted) and our completion rate has been 97% (weather and ATC adjusted).

These are all indicators of a high-performing operation, which is showing steady improvement as all parties concerned gain operating experience with the Twin Otter fleet.

We are also aware of today’s delays and continue to work diligently to improve performance further.

To your specific questions:

  1. It is true that we had one aircraft on site yesterday. However, Skybus continue to support us in the same manner even when only one aircraft is on site. The reasons why sometimes only one aircraft has been on site relate to engineering works being required at home base or crew-related issues (training). Even at these times, Skybus is committed to send an aircraft to cover the operation as needed. The fact that we have two aircraft on site now today is evidence as this provision has helped us cover flights and reduce disruption today.
  2. There is no shortage of Twin Otter pilots on island.

Trust this helps in providing some context and factually based responses.

Kind regards

Philip Saunders
