The Alderney Island Games Association (AIGA), the latest organisation to join the Alderney Chamber of Commerce, has announced a special event – and the topic is: What could the Island Games do for Alderney? The Alderney Chamber of Commerce is inviting islanders to an informal community evening to learn more about the Island Games and what they could mean for Alderney The Alderney Chamber of Commerce is inviting islanders to an informal community evening to learn more about the Island Games and what they could mean for AlderneySunday 11 October, from 5.30pm to 7.00pm in The Georgian House Orangery This event is open to everyone, including those who know little about the Games or who question their relevance or value to Alderney. Discussion will look beyond the competition itself and explore how the Island Games could help promote sport and fitness, strengthen community spirit and belonging, encourage greater cooperation between clubs and make better use of limited sporting resources. The Games also give Alderney athletes the chance to compete internationally and act as ambassadors for the island when they travel overseas.
The evening will include an update on the 2027 Island Games in the Faroe Islands, the opportunities they offer and the practical and financial challenges Alderney faces in getting a team there. Organisers also want to be open about the future. Alderney has participated in the Island Games since 1985, but continued participation cannot be taken for granted. Without sufficient community, volunteer and financial support, the island may struggle to take part in future Games. Entry is free, with a complimentary drink and light nibbles available. Donations accepted. Everyone is welcome. To find out more about AIGA, please visit their website |
