Chamber of Commerce AGM to highlight achievements, issues and objectives

Did you know that Alderney’s first Chamber of Commerce operated in Alderney until June 1940?

The present Chamber was constituted at a public meeting held in the Catholic Hall on Monday 10th April 1961 and the Members of the Council elected at this meeting met for the first time on Monday 17th April 1961.

For the past 19 years, Andrew Eggleston has been the President of the Chamber and our membership has grown to over 170 members from the island’s business community, as well as from Guernsey .

At the forthcoming AGM on 28 May, Chamber’s President Andrew Eggleston will summarise events and initiatives launched during the past twelve months, including a closer working relationship with the States of Alderney, as well as several important presentations and consultations.

One particular issue is Artificial Intelligence – AI – which is fast becoming a major part of business life. “The Alderney Chamber of Commerce is well aware of its growing importance to the island’s business community”, said Andrew Eggleston. “ Last month we organised and sponsored an introduction to AI workshop at the Georgian House which was presented by social media expert Cam Cairnduff. This highly informative session was well received and well attended.”

“Our AGM is open to all paid-up members. It takes place at 6:00 pm on Wednesday 28th May at the Georgian and will be followed by a drinks party – a great opportunity for our members to exchange ideas and concerns.” ENDS
